Uijeongbu, South Korea

This week's clicker: Breda Lund
Corner of the world: Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea
Occupation: English teacher

Uijeongbu is a suburb north of Seoul, about 30 km away from North Korea. Much more than military bases, the vibrant city is in a valley surrounded by scenic granite mountains.

MONDAY
The autumn leaves are in full color here. I love the gates at the entrances to the townhouses, which are a common type of housing in my neighborhood.

TUESDAY
Even though Uijeongbu is a big city with around half a million people, there are rice paddies at the edge town. The streets are lined with ginkgo trees, which turn beautiful gold in the fall.

WEDNESDAY
Office blocks here are plastered with neon signs advertising the businesses within. In this case, pool halls, dentists and English language academies.

THURSDAY
Downtown Uijeongbu grows and changes quickly. This new pedestrian center with fountains and sculptures was built just last year, and the construction in the background is a new department store.

FRIDAY
Downtown Uijeongbu on Friday night. This street is lined with restaurants, bars and noraebang, where you can sing karaoke with your friends in your own private room.

SATURDAY
More of those beautiful ginkgo trees! These students are returning home after school. Yes, they go to school here every other Saturday.

SUNDAY
The persimmons are ripe on the trees. Persimmons are a very popular autumn fruit here, and they are usually eaten fresh, dried or as part of side dishes at mealtime.
